The Cavern Club
In February, 1961, the group played a lunchtime gig at the Cavern Club, a blues and beat club on Mathew Street, the first of 292 appearances they would make there. In this photo, taken of the group on the club's tiny stage, Pete Best plays drums. He would perform with the group until 1962, when he was replaced by Ringo Starr.
Prodigal Sons
By 1964, John, Paul, George and Ringo had become worldwide pop sensations. In July of that year, they returned to their hometown to attend a screening of A Hard Day's Night, where they were feted at City Hall, above, and greeted by 150,000 fans.

The Hard Day's Night Hotel, opened in February, 2008, offers four-star service and two penthouses — called the Lennon & McCartney suites.
